Miles Ashlock, M.A.
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Miles Ashlock Burke has been part of the UCSB community since July 2007, spending 13 years in the Student Life and Dean of Students area before joining the Vice Chancellor's Office in 2020. He holds an M.A. and ABD in Educational Leadership and Organizations from UCSB’s Gevirtz Graduate School of Education.
As Chief of Staff and Executive Director of Planning and Administration, he plays a key role in shaping the strategy and operations of Student Affairs. He is a change catalyst dedicated to building upon the values and strengths of Student Affairs to drive continuous improvements in our service to students and to maintain the division as a positive, rewarding, and sustainable place to work. In his role as an executive advisor, he has the opportunity to work in many facets of Student Affairs, assisting the Vice Chancellor with overall management and strategy, collaborating with the Chief Financial Officer on budget processes and decisions, serving as the human resources lead in partnership with the Executive Operations Manager, preparing internal and external communications, and advising directors, including administrative directors, and other managers within Student Affairs.
He is continually energized by working directly with students and is inspired by their brilliance, perseverance, and care for others. What has kept him working in UCSB Student Affairs for nearly two decades is the people—he never takes for granted the privilege of working with kind, caring, and hard-working individuals who are motivated by similar values. He enjoys getting to know colleagues and welcomes messages from students and staff at all levels, as well as suggestions, questions, concerns, and insights of all kinds.
