Flexible Work Schedule

A schedule with hours outside the traditional work schedule for the position and department.

Examples below.

Compressed Workweek – An arrangement which condenses one or more standard workweeks into fewer, longer days.

  • 4/10 or 3/12 – Under this arrangement, employees may work four 10-hour days or three 12-hour days. This option is allowed for both Exempt and Non-Exempt employees.
  • 9/80 – Under this arrangement an Exempt employee works 80 hours over the course of 9 workdays and takes the 10th day off. This is allowed for Exempt employees only.

Flextime – An arrangement that allows an employee to alter the starting and/or end time of the workday. Employees still work the same number of scheduled hours per day as they would under a traditional schedule.

  • Daily Flex – A regular schedule that varies from regular department hours.
  • Core Hours – An established range of time when all employees in a workgroup are available with flexible scheduling on either end of the workday.
  • Days of the Week Flex – A schedule where hours are flex on one or more particular days of the week.

Hybrid Work

An arrangement where an employee's primary worksite is a designated office location of the employer, but the employee has been approved to perform a portion of their duties from an alternate location, such as working from home. Employees with a hybrid work arrangement will have an assigned work location (e.g., office or cubicle) on campus, which may be a shared space.

Remote Work

An arrangement where an employee's official worksite is not a designated work location of the employer. The employee's official worksite location may impact tax assessments and insurance options applicable to the employee. Employees with a full-time remote work arrangement will not have an assigned work location on campus.

Workday

For non-exempt employees, a 'day' or 'workday' is defined as 8 hours worked in a single day, pro-rated based on the position's FTE. For example, for an employee who works 50% time, a day is defined as 4 hours worked in single day for the purposes of this guidance.
